What information is needed to commission a short advertising video?

Define the one-line message, audience, publishing format and ending so a short trailer request becomes specific and feasible.

What information is needed to commission a short advertising video?

A ten-second video has limited time to explain anything. Asking it to introduce a brand, show every service, tell a story and include several calls to action may leave none of them clear. Begin with one message and one specific outcome for the viewer.

Write the message in one sentence

Explain which service meets which need. “We turn your story idea into an animated shot” communicates more than a string of adjectives. Then identify images that make the sentence understandable. A storyboard tests the relationship between the message and the frames.

A hypothetical ten-second structure starts with a need or sketch, shows the main change, then pauses on the result and title. This is a suggested pattern, not a fixed timing rule. Read the narration naturally and time it before deciding the shot lengths.

Specify the publishing destination

A website video, story and landscape display use different frames. Establish where the subject and title sit and whether alternative crops are needed. On a service landing page, file size and mobile playback are part of delivery too.

For generative production, first and last frames can clarify movement. The tool's actual capabilities and transition complexity still need testing. Treat the first output as a preview to review before preparing the final file.

Plan sound early

For narration, specify the script, tone and pronunciation of names. Sound design must leave room for understandable speech. W3C guidance recommends considering access to audio and visual information during planning; do not rely only on sound for essential messages.

A request checklist

  • One-line message and primary audience.
  • Duration and required aspect ratios.
  • Logo, product photographs and permitted style references.
  • Narration and on-screen text.
  • Ending behaviour: poster, call to action or a simple finish.
  • Delivery timing, approver and revision scope.

Review the silent and audible versions separately. During editing and caption review, check names, numbers and reading time. If the ending should remain as a poster, the video should not abruptly finish on a black frame.

Send this checklist, even as a short note, for a Visionairt advertising-video consultation. A clear request makes style selection and feasibility review easier and provides a shared basis for approving the result.
